Coffee, red wine and chocolate are some of the finer things in life, and many would consider them indulgences. However, a new study shows that these indulgences might benefit our overall health in one major way. A study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine suggests that anti-inflammatory foods and beverages, such as coffee, red wine and chocolate, can lower your chance of early death.
Researchers from Poland’s Warsaw University of Life Sciences studied 68,000 men and women from Sweden, in ages ranging from 45-83, over a period of 16 years and discovered that those who followed an anti-inflammatory diet had a lower risk of dying by 18 percent. In addition to coffee, red wine and chocolate, participants in the study also regularly consumed tea, low fat cheeses, vegetables, fruits, cereals and whole grain bread.
Along with having a lower chance of early death, participants who followed an anti-inflammatory diet had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from a cardiovascular disease and a 13 percent reduced risk of dying from cancer.
This is great news for office employees who reach for that coffee in the morning for an energy boost or indulge in some chocolate for a pick-me-up in the afternoon. These findings can give peace of mind knowing when you unwind and relax from a stressful day at the office with a glass of red wine at night it can help you live a longer life.
