Honoring the Memory of Lowell Shindler with the Coffee Legend Award

Lowell Shindler passed away in 2012, and is being honored for all of his dedication to the Coffee Service Channel for his entire 44-year career in the coffee industry. National Automatic Merchandising Association’s Chair Howard Chapman will present the award to Douglas Shindler, Lowell Shindler’s son during the NAMA’s Coffee Tea and Water conference.

“A NAMA Coffee Legend is a pioneer, an innovator, a leader and a visionary in the industry,” Chapman said. This does in fact describe our beloved Lowell. Lowell Shindler was a man born way ahead of his time, and was one of the coffee industry’s greatest assets.

Lowell Shindler began his career in coffee service in 1968 with his first company, Coffee Hutch. Lowell, a self-made man, started from the ground up in his business, carrying machines from door to door. In 1971, he joined forces with Steve Trapani and formed Bunn Coffee Service. Together, they went on to be the first providers of coffee to businesses throughout the New York City area. In 2000, Bunn Coffee Service became known as US Coffee, offering every product and supply you could imagine for your office and staff.

Along with being the recipient of the NAMA Coffee Legend Award, Lowell was recognized ten years in a row for being the largest product donator to the Long Island Cares / Harry Chaplin Food Bank. Lowell believed in giving back to the community that he loved so much.

The Coffee Legend Award was created to recognize members of the Coffee Service Industry. The National Automatic Merchandising Association wanted to express their gratitude for dedicated and consistent members, such as Lowell Shindler.
